Mevo - First Footage Release

  1. Mevo Camera: +Christopher Gregson yes, you can pinch the screen to zoom in/zoom out to the area you want. Also, you can create slower zooms and pans by holding the frame for a few seconds, when you release, the pan/zoom will go into effect over the amount of time you held for. Let me know if that doesnt make sense.
  2. Mevo Camera: +Matthew Valladao Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our developments.
  3. MomentsOfRamy: This product would be AMAZING and EXACTLY what i need IF it was 4K resolution, seriously cropping into each close up would be so much more clear and sharp.. I will hold off for the 4K version if it was to come in the near future.. The cropped in image is definitely not clear, there is clear lens distortion in the footage.. Great idea for a product, but hope it gets executed in a better way and really hope it advances much more than this, i am very very interested with the concept but not the quality results i am seeing on this video.
  4. Van Rugge Thomson: So there are quite a few comments/questions about the barrel distortion - is this how distorted the image will be on the final release of the camera? I know some may not mind, but it is a major issue for others. Could you please confirm one way or another? Thanks.
  5. M Wright: Well, I'm pretty used to these crowd funding deals coming in late, but a name change smells like re-org belying financial troubles... I'll hold on and see what evolves... I'm too stupid to know when to quit!
  6. don whitley: It looks a little fisheye with the wide shoot
  7. Mevo Camera: +mike Mckenzie not sure I understand your question. Which presets are you referring to?
  8. Mevo Camera: +don whitley Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our progress as we work to improve the video
  9. cleantones: +bradyhawk101 Not affiliated but might have some info. Yes it's limited to 720 on broadcast or recording. Cannot record at 1080 or 4k. The full frame is 4k and you punch in all over that for the virtual camera angles and all of the line edit is 720p. I believe there will be a few different field of view options similar to a GoPro. So the widest will be most fisheyed and the more narrow will have less field of view and less lens distortion. Crucial IMO.
  10. robert doster: can you hook up an external mic?
  11. Mevo Camera: +Tony Silveira correct, you will be able to stream in 16:9 with Mevo.
  12. cleantones: Didn't make this video either. Just replying to you in case it's helpful. I'm just a future user waiting for more info and my camera too. I've been following closely since January.
  13. Mevo Camera: +Godless Glen In this example, the de-warping is set at 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our progress as we work to improve the video.
  14. Mevo Camera: +cleantones thank you for your reply and for your interest in Mevo. Your breakdown above regarding 4K capture vs 720p output, and full field of view vs narrower field of view is accurate. Thanks again.
  15. Steve Osborne: Thanks for finally getting us some real life footage. Overall, I"m pretty impressed (less the fish eye mentioned by others). Can the panning be slowed down? I noticed that on the facebook keynote footage as well. The pan to correct shot composition was very abrupt. Can it be made more subtle? Great work Mevo team!
  16. Leif Hansen: Nice. Is it flipping between the two ladies so quickly via zooming, via two lenses or two cameras? Would have been nice to see more panning examples, but this is a great start! :) Looking forward to mine in...July.
  17. Richard Brenton: What's with the fish eye effect? I know you are using wide angle lens but hope your are planning some way to flatten. Check out: https://www.redgiant.com/universe-tools/fisheye-fixer/ Explore the possibilities.
  18. Timm Chartier: Not quire sure what, "Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%" means. Is the fisheye issue a hardware thing that you're addressing, or something that can/will be digitally corrected with firmware updates etc? It seems to be the biggest concern for most people on this thread...and was definitely the first thing I noticed. Very excited for the product anyway.
  19. cleantones: Normally I'd agree fully but when the change also comes with a Facebook affiliation it has a pretty positive side to it in terms of outlook for the product. Also one of the bigger complaints where regarding the paid subscription to Livestream. It appears it will be able to stream to Facebook without that. That's pretty big.
  20. M Wright: Streaming was not my interest, I wanted the shot changes in the fly. There is II much thoughtless video on FB now!
  21. Mevo Camera: +MomentsOfRamy thanks for the feedback and taking some interest in Mevo. We hope to earn your business someday!
  22. Life in Digital Films: I wonder how this will perform in not so good lighting situations? Not shocked with the delay...oh well.
  23. Gusto Lopez: +cleantones Some people are complaining and others are probably just asking smart questions because it helps to know what to expect. If you shoot professionally, like I do, it's good to know as much as possible so that you don't promise your client something that you cannot deliver on. My intent is to have this as an option for clients to live steam their events and in most cases, I will make sure to mention that these events have to be well lit. I'm pretty sure this is not going to perform very well unless there is enough light. I may be wrong...I hope I am wrong but based on the sample, I think good lighting is going to be essential. I got it during the special pre order phase, so I won't be out too much money but it does suck about the delay. Argh!!!
  24. wagzbullmax: I preordered 2 months ago and was just notified about the shipping delays (product to be shipped late July). Although I'm a little disappointed with the delays (as I have clients waiting to use this product), I'm glad that Mevo is taking their time to properly test and perfect the camera and its firmware. My question for Mevo, is the quality of the internally saved footage better than the quality of the live stream? I noticed the live stream is quite graining and the white balance continually shifts.
  25. Mevo Camera: +Leif Hansen single camera, single lens, single iPhone with the Mevo app. Have a look at getmevo.com to see more details on how this is accomplished. Thanks for your support!
  26. Gaston Sañudo: should have option for LOWER THIRDS
  27. Tom's Test Kitchen: The fish eye distortion on the wide shot is disappointing but the over all clarity of the video is not good, even at 720p. It looks hazy, I hope this is just an issue with the live streaming. Can you post a version of this exported from the camera?
  28. Paul Hager: Is the audio from the built-in mic on the camera, or separately wired?
  29. Dice Gamble: When is the next Mevo version due to be released?
  30. Mevo Camera: +Kurt Jaros we apologize about the news regarding a delay and really appreciate your understanding. Looking forward to getting a Mevo in your hands as soon as we can!
  31. mike Mckenzie: +Mevo Camera how many different shots can be preset
  32. Kevin Peterkin: what is the maximum ISO for this camera?
  33. Mevo Camera: +Raymond Frake In this example, the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our progress as we work to improve the video. Also, apologies for our delay in response to your comment. We missed this one.
  34. Matthew Valladao: Mevo, looks like you have been pretty good replying to comments fairly quickly, however I noticed that you have been silent on every comment that mentions the "fish eye" or "barrel" distortion. That is a pretty big issue for most of us that did pre-order, and for some that are considering. The push back of the release of the product was disappointing, however seeing the camera distortion was an EVEN BIGGER disappointment. Care to comment?
  35. Mevo Camera: +DANNY KIZZEE not sure what footage you are referencing?
  36. Kajan Johnson: its basically zooming in on a already soft 4k video, all in one fixed stagnant boring angle/composition. the voice recording is horrible too ...
  37. Gregory Evans: Nice...
  38. Mevo Camera: This is from the camera mic only. There will be an external audio plugin feature utilizing the headphone port on the controlling iPhone.
  39. Mevo Camera: +The Youngrens thank you for your feedback. Stay tuned as we release footage updates while we continue to work toward our July ship date.
  40. Mevo Camera: +Tom's Test Kitchen apologies for the late reply. Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our progress as we work to improve the video output.
  41. Mevo Camera: +Rodney Boyd apologies for the late reply. Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve as far as we can push it to eliminate distortion. We will post updates. Thanks!
  42. Some Guy: For a production, this camera works for audience reaction stuff only. Simply not good enough. But great for live B-roll stuff.
  43. Michael Walker: +cory Harrison yeh it's started out at the big discount then went up the longer you waited...I have no choice but to wait as it is cheap..so stupid if i quit now...
  44. don whitley: +MomentsOfRamy I thought on there website the specs said 4K - 3840 x 2160 pixels capture
  45. Peter Stern: +Tom's Test Kitchen Thought the same thing. Looking at getting this but would shooting in a darker environment, so also interested to see how the camera does in low light settings.
  46. Tom's Test Kitchen: +cleantones It does, shipping isn't until end of July now :-(
  47. Mevo Camera: +Cowboydoug iWasThereToo we do hope to support multiple cams through a single iPhone switcher at some point. Definitely on our radar and would love to roll that out at some point. Nothing confirmed to report at the moment.
  48. Mevo Camera: +Van Rugge Thomson Thanks for your question. Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our developments.
  49. MomentsOfRamy: +don whitley have you seen 4k footage yet? [an honest question] if not please check out what 4k footage looks like even uploaded to YouTube which are either 4k or down sampled to 1080p and then put it side by side to this video.. i dunno, i am very doubtful with gimmicks these days.. I have worked with the GH4 and a few other cameras and the 4K is way sharper, then this records at 720 at 20Mbps? ermm.. its like saying hey we will give you 1080p full HD but at SD quality, like you watch a video that was digitised from a video tape into 1080 resolution, it just won't cut it.. do you know what i mean? its not really there yet in my opinion judging only from the video above as a example which is first footage release of what i presume is a working production model.. I love the concept of this product, they hit the nail on the head with the idea but not with what i am seeing visually in this day and age with other options.. i would have jumped at it and ordered it now if this first footage video was comparable to what i have seen as 4k footage, maybe it is the low Mbps rate that is the issue with it giving unclear picture during punch in..possibly.. We are in a time where you can buy a 200GB micro sd card from sandisk and 4k resolution at much higher Mbps rates than the 20Mbps they claim that is only available in MP4, so you are getting a 5Mbps in essence [as they state on their website], even a GoPro 4K has better quality than this 4k, i cannot fathom why not just make it well rounded in all its specs, even at something between 60-80Mbps would make it comparable image wise to other cameras.. It is a great product and i am definitely a fan, but i need to see a better image visually to work with it, this will be great for not just cooking shows, it would be great for lectures, events, Vloggers and much more, but it has to be on par to make a higher impact. If the quality was comparable to a 4K GoPro - i am sold on it! The whole point for 4k is to have the ability and feature to punch into the frame somewhere and get a clear image, this example video falls short.
  50. ภาษาเขมร น่ารู้: I like mevo
  51. Darcy Ogandaga: Wow, this is crazy!!!!
  52. cleantones: +The Life in Digital I believe the lens is f2.8. I'm definitely seeing some artifacting in the shadows in this footage which I'm concerned about. I look forward to seeing very low light examples like a club type of concert.
  53. Erik Setterholm: BAD. ASS. Can't wait to get mine and start shooting!
  54. Christopher Gregson: I had thought that there was a zoom function?
  55. Astrophotography Tutorials: +Mevo Camera What is the expected Ship Date? I placed my order on 1/4/2016. As others have indicated, the FishEye problem wasn't in the demo footage. I'd rather wait until the FishEye problem was fixed. Thanks!
  56. Mevo Camera: +Randy Scribner Jr. Mevo is a good solution for any live events. Live concerts are one of the many use cases we have had in mind while the camera has been in development.
  57. M. Dean Jones: Yeah...the noticeable, persistent barrel distortion is a no-go. When I dropped $400+ on a pre-order of the camera, it was after seeing that initial video with the beautiful, flat shot. If I would have seen this video, there's no way I would have pre-ordered. I'm really hoping this will be fixed by the time it ships. Because, honestly, if I get mine and it looks like this, I'm shipping it right back for a full refund. I can't use something with distortion that bad in a professional environment.
  58. Raymond Frake: +Mevo Camera Can't you just turn the knob up to 110%. Spinal Tap would approve if you did. ;-)
  59. Caroline Tudor: +Mevo Camera you also did not reply to the distortion issue of the wide lens. Will there be settings to fix this for streaming live and will we be able to fix it in post?
  60. Mevo Camera: +Italy Made Easy all editing is done live. We will not have the ability to save the raw 4K capture and then go back and re-edit. That said, we are developing some "smart editing" options in the software to essentially edit automatically without someone controlling the app. This is still in progress and we will release example footage of this in the future when available.
  61. Rodney Boyd: Maybe it's just me but the wide shot looks a little fish eye like. That needs to be fixed for me
  62. Timm Chartier: +Mevo Camera Splendid! Thanks also for being so diligent with answering everyone's questions. The product concept is excellent. I pre-ordered and am looking forward to seeing how the final product works. Thanks!
  63. Kurt Jaros: Yesssssss. Sad about the delay, but still looking forward to this.
  64. Mevo Camera: +M. Dean Jones Understandable. Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our developments.
  65. Christopher Gregson: Thanks! Your demo should show that too!
  66. Mevo Camera: +DANNY KIZZEE ah yes. The Daybreaker footage was not released. We were just doing various tests at the time. Also, sorry for missing the reply to this thread.
  67. DANNY KIZZEE: +Mevo Camera when you were beta testing with the bands? day breaker nyc?
  68. Mevo Camera: +Paul Hager the audio from this footage is from the built-in mic on the camera.
  69. bradyhawk101: +cleantones Thanks for the info, didn't realize you were not affiliated. About what I expected. Still a cool camera none the less. How was the setup and user experience with it? Pretty straight fwd?
  70. Laura in the Kitchen: Sorry I'm super extra really late - but is this distortion present on the current models? Currently using a TV switcher for live events, but this is a pretty sweet alternative.
  71. Cory Harrison: how do I buy this?
  72. renture: Is this the audio from the camera Mic only? Is there an added mic?
  73. Mevo Camera: +iamjohnwhite yes. Mevo will have the capability to plugin external audio through the headphone port of your iPhone.
  74. Peter Stern: Pretty amazing what you can do with this one camera. Really need to see how it does in low light before ordering. Our use won't be in a lit studio. Also, you guys should really get someone like Jim Gaffigan to do a series of live videos with Mevo.
  75. Mevo Camera: +mike Mckenzie for sure up to six 'virtual cameras' at launch in July. We are exploring more than that, but want to ensure that the usability and the user experience in the app is as seamless as possible.
  76. The Youngrens: Yeah, I'd agree that the quality is pretty disappointing. I think I have reasonable expectations and know that you're not going to be able to get super high quality out of something like this but the distortion is a no-go and the digital zoom is seriously degraded in quality. It sounds like they're trying to fix these things, but until they do I'll hold off on ordering. Bummer about the delays, too.
  77. Mevo Camera: +MomentsOfRamy sorry about that, not intentional. The answer is yes, recording quality will be better than streaming. Mevo records at 720p30 up to 20Mbps, and it streams at 720p30 up to 5Mbps.
  78. iamjohnwhite: Can we attach external microphones?
  79. Lutte Kikker: A digitally zoomed shot from a 4K resolution camera is smart, but the distortion does more damage than it helps to get a compelling set of shots. In this case a 3-cam setup would be better where both girls have a closer placed camera each so you don't have to zoom in too much with probably less wide angle distortion. IF the app allows a 3 cam/ multicam setup that is so you can use 2 50mm (equiv.) standard lenses.
  80. cleantones: I do have realistic expectations. I do shoot professionally but not on a high level. I've been at it for quite a while and shot on consumer/prosumer VHS, 8mm, Hi-8 and whatnot. I had cameras that cost many thousands that essentially look like dogshit these days. I have perspective with a camera like this. I can't help but notice the people complaining about the price or the quality. It boggles me a bit. It's just a few hundred dollars. That's a ton of bang for the buck.
  81. Tony Ventura: Hi. What Microphone did u use?
  82. Randy Scribner Jr.: How would this do for a live concert
  83. Pierre Roberge: +Leif Hansen I think everything is done digitally, hence the lower resolution when zooming in on one lady.
  84. Mevo Camera: +robert doster yes, you can plugin external audio through the headphone port of the iPhone and mix in.
  85. DANNY KIZZEE: where is the band footage from the facebook site?
  86. Tony Silveira: Facebook Live is a square screen...how do do this with MEVO? Is FB changing their specs?
  87. Mevo Camera: +Timm Chartier not a hardware issue. So hypothetically speaking, yes, it could improve with further FW/SW updates after launch. But our goal is to get it to the best it can possibly be by July when we ship.
  88. E-ZCorpUk Bristol Hot Tub Hire: Great camera, problem here is that people want 4k high quality in every shot, 720p I feel unless really well lit does not provide enough great quality.
  89. cleantones: +M Wright Product development is a rollercoaster. My guess is that they had a late game partnership with Facebook that involved a cash injection and another round of updates including the rebrand. This is not uncommon especially with a new hardware manufacturer. I'm bummed too. I ordered Jan 10 and have clients lined up right now ready to test this with. Not much we can do and complaining isn't going to help. If they need a little time to make it as best as it an be so be it.
  90. Godless Glen: Like some other have pointed out, the fish-eye distortion is distracting. I'm so disappointed and had planned on getting one.
  91. cleantones: Thanks for sharing some video! I assume we'll see more soon. I hope the rebranding doesn't effect the timeline for shipment.
  92. mike Mckenzie: Looks interesting, how many presets can be used?
  93. FOUNDRY Church - video: The barrel distortion is distracting. Especially around the ladies arms when they are moving them towards the camera. Agree with the other comments. Transitions seemed rushed. Looking forward to more videos to see the possibilities with this camera.
  94. Raymond Frake: The barrel distortion, especially on the wide shot, is distracting and doesn't look very professional. Will there be a way to fix that in post? The promo video you guys released a few months ago never gave any indication this would be an issue. The switching and panning looks very good and the audio quality from the camera itself is pretty impressive. I hope you guys post more videos soon and demos from NAB next week.
  95. Cowboydoug iWasThereToo: Mevo, i share your thrill... is it perfect, No... is it awesome, Yes... and has so much potential. Considering what we are looking at and how it's being done this will work. Recently I have been looking at 4 camera switcher solutions utilizing the iPhone and this spanks them all. The only thing that would make this better is utilizing current iPhone switcher tech for multiple cameras... Talk about Wow! *please tell us you have plans for adding more cams - I do agree with comments made about the speed of transitions... i about threw up :0)
  96. Italy Made Easy: Love it! Just a question. Does the editing HAVE TO be done live, or can the entire footage (4K) be saved on the Mevo or the phone for later "on the fly" editing? Reason I ask is that I would be using this alone and not really for live streaming... basically I love the idea and would love to use this camera for general video production, rather than just live streaming! Cheers
  97. La JaJa Kids: The lens barrel distortion can be noticed very prominently, don't seems to be any correction at all for the wide mode. When zoomed in, the distortion is still there and even more noticeable. And the distortion seems to start from the middle and curve out to the side. Funny thing is almost entire frame is distorted, even the middle.
  98. DANNY KIZZEE: whats w/the haze @ the top & is there an option for barrell distortion correction?
  99. Mevo Camera: +La JaJa Kids Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our developments.
  100. bradyhawk101: Spec's have this at 4k, when you crop in using the app does that limit your specs to 720? Or does it stay 4k? Curious to why you released the first footage of your new product with only 720 playback? Also... Is the lens always fixed to 3mm? Seems really fish eyed.
  101. Mevo Camera: +Timm Chartier No problem. We are trying to stay on top of things as much as we can. We are a small team at the moment but we value our customers feedback 100% and are trying to stay on top of all questions.
  102. Mevo Camera: +Steve Osborne absolutely. All of the edits; pans, zooms, cuts, etc can be controlled by the user operating/producing through the Mevo app. You can create slow, dramatic pans/zooms, or execute them quickly.
  103. Malachi M: You can set it in flat view mode.
  104. Mevo Camera: +Caroline Tudor in regards to distortion - Right now the de-warping is enabled for 80%. Our target is 100% by ship date, but we don't yet know if this is going to be possible immediately at launch. So its possible that this is what you will see, but our intent is to improve it as far as we can to eliminate distortion. We will continue to post updates with our progress as we work to improve the video. As for transitions/editing - you can do this at your own pace and create slower pans/zooms, cuts, etc if that is what you and your audience prefer. Sorry for that delay in reply, missed this comment!
  105. Caroline Tudor: love it! two things: lens distortion? 1. you can sse it on the walls behind the ladies. is there a setting to fix this? 2. the transitinos are a little bit too quick. i would suggest to slow it down some. can't wait for mine! I'm gonna make some $$$ with it!
  106. MomentsOfRamy: +Mevo Camera great thanks.. do you have any intentions to make it 1080p at 25fps? or even 4k?
  107. Mevo Camera: +Chris Tophe Gil Lain To answer Q1 - you can connect and control the camera either through your wifi connection, or if you have no wifi, the camera creates its own local network to connect and edit. For Q2 - we have heard this request from a few people and this is a planned feature to control within the app. Thanks!
  108. Gusto Lopez: +cleantones Thanks for the info! I agree. I see the same thing happening. Thanks for the info!
  109. cleantones: I'm with you Gusto. I got in on the onset as well and have been waiting just like you. I'm at an event right now that I would be testing it on if it was shipped. Alas...
  110. Malachi M: No news on new iterations of the mevo? I saw the ios update that's coming this summer an am super excited for it!
  111. Chris Tophe Gil Lain: I hope that the moves can be very slower/smoother (depending by the director behind the iphone?) Question 1, can we change the position/zoom of an offline camera or we can only move/zoom an online camera? Question 2, can we block the zoom until it's maximum optical capability in 720p to avoid destructive digital zoom ? It can be interesting to make another footage with a synchronized split screen were we can see the director working on the iphone...
