Chinese tourism makes up a valuable part of the Thai tourism industry, with 4.6 million Chinese tourists visiting the country in the last year, and the Land of Smiles is keen to improve the relationship between the two countries and attract more Chinese visitors to Thailand. As a means of honouring this connection and developing it further, the Tourism Authority of Thailand has unleashed a sizzling new celebrity marketing scheme to enhance Thailand’s image in China and promote more awareness of the many wonders of ‘Thainess’. This brilliant scheme centres around a certain much-loved young Thai pop singer, Mario Maurer, who has already garnered an impressive Chinese fan-base of over 3 million, including many teens.
TAT has appointed Mario as a sort of cultural ambassador to China, a role which will allow him to promote both the country’s various must-see destinations and its rich culture and traditions. Mario will be showcasing the many wonders of Thainess to adoring Chinese fans and audiences as part of ‘Tour Thailand with Mario Maurer’, during which he will star in 6 videos showcasing some of the Land of Smiles’ hottest tourist destinations as well as unveiling some of Thailand’s less well-known but equally stunning locations.
This project, which involves collaborations with many Chinese media and television outlets as well as businesses such as Shanghai’s foremost department store, Super Brand Mall, will see Mario hosting 3 Meet and Greet sessions in Shanghai, Chengdu and Kunming. Mario will also give interviews, share his travel experiences to his many followers on Weibo and WeChat, and give 10 lucky fans the chance to attend an exclusive dinner with the star, which will take place in Shanghai.
